Notes on Antioxidants

Thankfully, most of us are now aware of the need to protect our skin against UV radiation to prevent premature ageing and skin cancer. However environmental pollution such as exhaust fumes, industrial smoke, tobacco, air conditioning and ozone can be just as damaging as UV. Overexposure results in fine lines, wrinkles, large pores and blemishes. Along with dehydration, dull, weakened and prematurely aged or sensitised complexions.

Antioxidants are essential in combating the effects of pollution by preventing and neutralising free radical damage, and the more you apply to skin, the better. They not only help combat the effects of premature ageing, they also calm, restore, brighten and revitalize dull-looking skin.

Be sure to layer a potent antioxidant serum underneath you’re spf day cream each morning. For those of us with exposure to higher levels of pollution and environmental aggressors, try an antioxidant treatment serum at in the evening or choose a night cream with added antioxidants. Look for ingredients such as vitamins B,C and E. Ferulic acid, resveratrol, alpha lipoic acid, green tea, silver needle tea, white tea and artichoke.
Try SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic serum for day (a long time favourite of mine); SkinCeuticals Resveratrol BE for a night time treatment,  Chanel La Solution 10 is loaded with silver needle tea and designed for all skin types including sensitive Aspect Dr Resveratrol Moisturising Crème, a light weight moisturiser loaded with resveratrol.
