In the evening I always recommend that you cleanse your skin not once, but twice.
The first cleanse will remove make-up, oil, sunscreen and debris in the upper most layer. The second will clean the skin of all remaining residue, and better prime it for more effective application of serums, oils and hydrators.
Just as your body needs sleep to recharge and regain energy for the following day, so too does your skin. Your complexion’s pretty clever and uses this down time to drink in serums, moisturisers and eye creams, but it has no hope if there is a layer of make-up sitting on the skin. Short term, the skin can become congested from the oil, make-up and debris sitting in the pores overnight. Apart from leaving a dull, lacklustre complexion, the skin becomes far more prone to blackheads, break outs and blemishes,
The long term effects are premature ageing due to the breakdown in collagen caused by the environmental pollutants left on the skin. This can also result in coarse skin texture, large pores, fine lines, and general skin laxity.
