Counting the likes of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Victoria Beckham as regular clients, Melanie Grant is the name to know in celebrity circuits right now. The Australian-born aesthetician has clinics in LA’s coveted Melrose Place, as well as Melbourne and Sydney. Her treatments employ light therapy, microdermabrasion and ultrasound technology to achieve her signature fresh, healthy glow.

While we might not be able to book in for one of her renowned facials at the moment, Melanie has provided the next best thing: her facial massage technique. From the tools she uses to the product she can’t live without, here is a little sneak peek into Melanie Grant’s at-home skincare routine…

Facial Massage Is Part Of My Daily Routine…

I employ a facial massage on a daily basis whilst applying my evening skincare regime. It’s easy to incorporate and has a multitude of benefits. Firstly, it boosts blood flow, flooding the skin with oxygen and nutrients to promote radiance. It also drains fluid and toxins to sculpt and refine, as well as stimulate the production of collagen to increase firmness and elasticity.

It Doesn’t Need To Be Complicated…

You can use tools, but I prefer to use my hands. The warmth helps my product to penetrate deep into the skin and amplifies the efficacy. Always work upwards and outwards, drain towards your lymph nodes and ensure you apply ample product for slip. Never tug or pull at the skin and avoid downward strokes.

Occasionally I like to use a Gua Sha tool on my neck and jawline. I recommend that you use whatever you enjoy.

Go Gently Around Your Eyes…

Start by draining outwards with your ring finger from the inner corner to the side of your inner ear 10- 20 times. Use gentle pressing movements with the tip of your ring finger along the orbital bone to de-congest and flush out lymph fluid. Ensure you have plenty of product to provide slip as the skin in this is ultra fragile.

Avoid Overloading Your Skin With Actives…

I try to avoid using too many active ingredients at once, along with products that contain high levels of fragrance or alcohol as my skin is on the sensitive side. There are a few old faithful products – for example, I always apply Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream at night. However, I always adjust my regime according to the season and whilst travelling depending on the climate.

If my skin is feeling parched, I layer a good quality face oil underneath a rich moisturiser (I love Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum underneath my Augustinus Bader cream or Sisley Paris Black Rose Cream Mask). This combination leaves my skin quite plump and supple.

Don’t Overlook Your Diet…

Diet plays a huge role in skin health and overall wellbeing. I like to follow an organic anti-inflammatory diet where possible. I try and incorporate lots of oily fish, vegetables, nuts, seeds, fruit , smoothies, salad  and soups with lots of bone broth. I try and avoid gluten, dairy, sugar or processed foods and too much alcohol. In saying that, I don’t deprive myself and believe life is there to be enjoyed, I love to indulge in a little red wine, dark chocolate or a pizza here and there.
