    What it does

Sweet almond oil is a gentle, naturally derived oil with many uses: it helps comfort irritated skin, protect sensitive skin and moisturise dry skin. It has almost no scent of its own, which makes it a common choice for sensitive skin, and it is pressed from the kernels of the sweet almond.

    How it works

Rich in oleic and linoleic fatty acids, almond oil is best for restoring moisture and suppleness to the skin, while its natural vitamin E helps counteract the effects of free radicals. As an emollient, it softens the skin and helps slow water loss rather than adding water itself, so it both moisturises and protects, making it a great all-rounder and a classic massage oil.

    MG says

Mild and gentle, almond oil is perfect for those with sensitive or dry skin. During pregnancy, generous, consistent use of a rich oil such as almond, argan or rosehip helps keep skin supple as it stretches; choose one free of essential oils, which are not always suitable in pregnancy.

    Cautions

Sweet almond oil comes from a tree nut. If you have a nut allergy, check with your doctor before using it, and patch test if your skin is reactive.
