    What it does

The African baobab tree gives skincare two main ingredients: an oil pressed from its seeds, which softens and nourishes, and extracts of its fruit pulp and leaves, which help hydrate. Together they leave a smooth, comfortable complexion.

    How it works

Baobab seed oil is rich in oleic and linoleic fatty acids and vitamin E, so it softens the skin and helps reduce water loss, improving the look of texture. The fruit pulp is naturally high in vitamin C and antioxidant polyphenols, and its extracts are used for hydration and suppleness, though how much vitamin C survives in an extract varies.

    MG says

Baobab oil is one of the oils recommended for mature skin, alongside rosehip, marula, squalane and camellia, for its antioxidants and fatty acids. It also features in Auteur Definitive Line Serum, where a patented baobab complex supports hydration alongside the serum’s peptides.

    Cautions

Generally well tolerated; patch test if your skin is reactive.
