    What it does

Cucumber extract is a gentle botanical, prized for its cooling, soothing feel. Cucumber is mostly water, with small amounts of vitamin C, antioxidant flavonoids and minerals, and in skincare it helps soothe and calm the look of redness and irritation while refreshing the skin. That makes it a favourite in toners, cleansing waters, masks and eye care, especially for sensitive skin and after treatments.

    How it works

Polysaccharides, a type of natural carbohydrate, are a key component of cucumber extract, and form a light, invisible film that helps attract and hold moisture, keeping skin hydrated and supple. It’s also mildly astringent, giving a temporary tightening feel that can refine the look of pores.

    MG says

Cucumber extract is wonderful for soothing irritated, sensitive skin. I recommend it post-facial or after other treatments. For tired, puffy eyes, the famed chilled cucumber slices, like a cold compress, can help cool and de-puff the area.

    Cautions

Cucumber extract is gentle and generally well tolerated. Rarely it can cause a reaction, particularly if you are allergic to cucumber or melon, so patch test first if your skin is reactive.
