Ferulic Acid
A plant-derived antioxidant that helps stabilise vitamins C and E and adds to their protection against free radicals.
ferulic acid, hydroxycinnamic acid
Ageing skin · Dull skin · Pigmentation & dark spots
What it does
A plant-derived antioxidant found in grains such as rice bran, oats and wheat, ferulic acid is an all-rounder worthy of your top shelf. When combined with other antioxidants, most notably vitamins C and E, it helps stabilise them and get the most out of their free radical-fighting benefits.
How it works
Ferulic acid helps stabilise vitamins C and E by slowing their oxidation, and in laboratory tests the three together gave greater antioxidant protection than the vitamins alone. Used every morning under SPF, this antioxidant defence helps skin look brighter, more even and firmer. It is not a sunscreen, so it works alongside SPF rather than replacing it.
MG says
Ferulic acid can be used in conjunction with retinol, in the evening alongside it or on alternate nights, and it earns its place each morning in an antioxidant serum layered under SPF. Eighth Day The Reparative Moisturiser pairs it with resveratrol and amino acids in a lightweight formula that plays well when layered with serums and makeup.
Cautions
Ferulic acid is generally well tolerated. Serums that pair it with high-strength vitamin C can tingle on sensitive skin, so introduce them gradually. It does not replace your daily SPF.
