Grape Seed Oil

A light, fast-absorbing plant oil rich in linoleic acid and vitamin E that softens skin without heaviness.

grapeseed oil, Vitis vinifera (grape) seed oil, Vitis vinifera seed oil

Barrier support · Blemish-prone skin · Dull skin

    What it does

Grape seed oil is rich in fatty acids, particularly linoleic acid, plus antioxidant vitamin E. This allows it to help soften and nourish the skin, and its light, fast-absorbing texture suits oily and blemish-prone skin as well as dry. It is pressed from the seeds left over from winemaking.

    How it works

As grape seed oil contains antioxidant vitamin E, it can help neutralise free radicals, including those generated by sun exposure, though it is no substitute for SPF. Thanks to its linoleic acid, grape seed oil also softens and supports the skin's barrier, and vitamin E helps nourish, smooth and protect.

    MG says

This replenishing oil is easily absorbed by the skin. It is the first ingredient in Augustinus Bader The Face Oil, which I reach for whenever my skin looks a little devitalised or lacklustre, and which we often use in the treatment room as a massage medium or finishing product.

    Cautions

Grape seed oil is light and generally well tolerated; patch test if your skin is reactive. It is high in polyunsaturated fats, which oxidise easily, so keep oils away from heat and light and use them within their shelf life.
