What it does
Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) is valued in skincare for its antioxidant profile, the most widely researched of its effects on the skin. Its key constituent, silymarin, helps protect the skin from environmental stress and soothe the look of redness, which makes it a good fit for sensitive and ageing skin.
How it works
Milk thistle contains a constituent called silymarin, a complex of antioxidant flavonolignans (chiefly silybin) praised for its soothing properties. It helps neutralise free radicals and, when formulated correctly, complements other antioxidants such as vitamin C and ferulic acid.
MG says
Milk thistle is a good antioxidant to look for if your skin is easily irritated, as it helps protect while it soothes. You'll find it in CosMedix Elite Pepoxide, alongside more than a dozen other antioxidants.
Cautions
Milk thistle belongs to the daisy family, so if you react to plants such as ragweed, chamomile or daisies, patch test first.
