    What it does

Rice is a wonderfully moisturising ingredient with many benefits. It has been a favourite ingredient in skincare for centuries. Rice bran oil is rich in antioxidants such as vitamin E (tocotrienols), ferulic acid and gamma-oryzanol, while hydrolysed rice protein conditions and smooths the skin. Meanwhile, rice starch assists in forming a soothing protective film over the skin.

    How it works

Containing vitamin E, linoleic acid, oleic acid and palmitic acid, rice bran oil conditions the skin as an effective moisturiser, while finely milled rice powders gently buff as a natural exfoliant. Rice bran oil also contains squalene, from which the popular moisturiser squalane can be made, and rice starch absorbs excess oil and leaves a soft, protective film on the skin.

    MG says

Hydrolysed rice protein runs through the Augustinus Bader range. In The Cream it is one of the supporting ingredients behind its soothing, clarifying and revitalising feel, alongside aloe vera and vitamins A and C.

    Cautions

Rice ingredients are generally very gentle. Rice powders exfoliate physically, so use them lightly on sensitive skin.
