TFC8, short for Trigger Factor Complex 8, is Augustinus Bader's patented technology, and it sits at the heart of every formula in the range. The brand describes it as a blend of natural amino acids, high-grade vitamins and synthesised molecules naturally found in skin, designed to support the look of healthy, resilient skin. Formulas built on it aim to improve hydration, suppleness, tone and texture, and the look of fine lines and firmness.
How it works
Augustinus Bader likens TFC8 to a “GPS for nutrients”: the complex is designed to guide key ingredients to skin cells, creating an optimal environment for healthy-looking, resilient skin. The brand does not publish its full composition, and on ingredient lists it appears simply as TFC8 or TFC-8. An updated version, Advanced TFC8, features in newer formulas such as The Elixir and The Skin Infusion, and TFC8 also features in the brand's collaboration with Victoria Beckham Beauty.

TFC8 formulas are central to The Augustinus Bader x Melanie Grant Facial, paired with a massage that works on the fascia to boost circulation and help actives penetrate. At home, choose by texture: The Cream suits combination, oily or blemish-prone skin, and The Rich Cream normal to dry or mature skin. I reach for The Face Oil whenever my skin looks devitalised, and we often use it in the treatment room as a massage medium.
Cautions
Augustinus Bader doesn't publish TFC8's full composition, so if you have known sensitivities, check each product's ingredient list and patch test. Some TFC8 formulas also contain actives with their own cautions: The Retinol Serum contains retinol, which should be avoided in pregnancy, and The Essence contains exfoliating acids, so wear SPF daily.
