This is a face oil explainer and product round-up from Harper's BAZAAR Australia, published in April 2022. It sets out to undo the bad name face oils have, where people picture something greasy and heavy, and promises a list of 12 oils worth trying. Melanie Grant, introduced as a Chanel skin expert and skin practitioner, answers the main questions.
Her view is that oils suit everyone. Grant tells the magazine that face oils “should have a firm place on everyone’s vanity, regardless of your skin type.” She admits they can feel daunting if your skin is combination or oily, or if you have never used one. The answer is to match the oil to your particular concerns rather than avoid oils altogether.
The piece tackles the common belief that combination, normal or acne-prone skin should steer clear of oil. It argues the opposite: the right oil can help balance the skin's own oil production, so it doesn't have to work overtime.
Grant explains why oils work. Whether used alone or in a blend, they come from the most nutrient-dense parts of a plant and are rich in essential fatty acids, antioxidants, polyphenols and vitamins. That makes them a good support for skin that feels dry, sensitised or devitalised, or that has a weakened barrier, because they can nourish and strengthen it.
