Notes on...PicoWay

PicoWay represents an innovative advancement in laser technology, operating through the precise delivery of light energy without generating any significant heat. This characteristic makes it a safe and highly effective option, particularly for darker skin tones that may be contra-indicated for traditional lasers, IPL or for those concerned with hormonal pigmentation that can be exacerbated by heat-based treatments. PicoWay functions by emitting ultra-short bursts of energy—measured in picoseconds, or one trillionth of a second—to shatter pigment and re-texturise the skin. This unique application disperses targeted pigment, which is then either metabolisized by the lymphatic system or naturally shed by the body.

Why It's Recommended

PicoWay offers a revolutionary treatment option for addressing a broad range of concerns, including acne scarring, pigment inconsistencies, skin laxity, fine lines, and dullness, across a wide spectrum of skin tones, specifically Fitzpatrick types I-V. It provides an excellent alternative for those seeking enhanced brightness, a noticeable lift, and an increase in skin density without the typical downtime associated with conventional IPL lasers. PicoWay is highly regarded not only for its exceptional ability to effectively remove tattoos and various forms of pigmentation—be it hormonal, sun-induced, or post-inflammatory—but also for its capacity to rapidly stimulate the production of new collagen, elastin, and glycosaminoglycans. This profound cellular activity leaves the complexion supple, refined and  firm, with restored youthful elasticity.

Expected Downtime

PicoWay treatments are associated with minimal downtime, generally considered "social" in nature. Some immediate warmth, mild redness, slight swelling, temporary darkening of existing pigmentation, and dryness can all be anticipated. Any sensation of heat and swelling typically subsides within 24 hours of the treatment. However, surfaced pigment may take up to 14 days to visibly lighten as it is metabolised through the natural process of cell turnover and cleared by the lymphatic system. As always, diligent sun care and mindful sun exposure are paramount. Additionally, the use of active ingredients such as retinol, Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), or Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) should be avoided for 72 hours post-treatment.

For some clients, urticaria (hives) may present as an immune response. This reaction is quite common after PicoWay and can take 3-4 days to subside; it is best managed with an antihistamine.

Recommended Treatments

The optimal number of treatments varies depending on individual skin type and the specific concerns being addressed. A course of 3-6 treatments, spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart, is generally recommended to achieve the most desirable and enduring results.
